KDB Wins “Bathroom of the Week” Award on Houzz.com for Stunning Tudor Renovation
Kendall Design Build is proud to announce our recent win of the “Bathroom of the Week” award on Houzz, celebrating our remarkable renovation of a Traditional Tudor bathroom. This award winning bathroom design highlights our commitment to creating timeless, high-quality designs that enhance the character of historic homes.
Our award-winning project involved transforming a compact 40-square-foot bathroom in a 1920s Tudor-style home in Royal Oak, Michigan. The homeowner’s vision was clear: a stylish yet functional space that retained the charm of the original architecture while meeting modern needs. Our lead interior designer Emily Elkins, embraced a “more is more” philosophy, reflecting the client’s desire for a design rich in detail and color.
“Collaborating on this project was truly inspiring,” says Elkins. “The client came prepared with a PowerPoint presentation, a first for me, and it was filled with references to iconic designer Dorothy Draper. This made our approach clear—bring vibrant, period-appropriate design into a small but significant space.”
Elkins and the team focused on enhancing the original Tudor features while introducing modern elements. We replaced the outdated pedestal sink with a sleek 24-inch vanity and added a mirrored medicine cabinet for improved functionality. The space now includes custom trim, a sage-green beveled tile from The Tile Shop, and a Greek key pattern on the floor, all contributing to a cohesive and elegant look.
“Our goal was to make the bathroom feel as though it could have been part of the home when it was first built,” Elkins explains. “The choice of materials, such as the period-style gold faucets and hand-rubbed antique brass light fixtures, was crucial in maintaining that historic charm while providing a fresh update.”
The renovation features a blend of traditional and contemporary elements, including a striking wallpaper and Art Deco-inspired fixtures. The thoughtful design choices not only honor the home’s original style but also enhance its functionality, proving that even small spaces can make a significant impact.
